A most ridiculous patent....

Gerbil Shirt

Patent awarded: 1999 Patent says: "A pet display vest for a person, having an elongated, enclosed, pet receiving, passageway extending thereacross with at least one closable pet admitting entry, at least part of the passageway being transparent so that, when the vest is worn, a pet moving along the passageway across a wearer's body can be viewed by a spectator." We say: A great invention if you ever thought, "Gee, I'd really like to take my small rodent out for a walk and get it some sun." Just try not to trip.

Gardening- Hardy Geranium phaeum

Geranium phaeum and its cultivars (along with Geranium macrorrhizum) are usually one of the first hardy geraniums flowering in my garden.  These two extremely hardy individuals, apart from having lovely flowers (the latter also has strongly scented leaves) can cope in extremely dry and shady conditions so were ideal choices around two fully grown cherry trees in my front garden.

This year though has been nice as I've spotted a few really promising seedlings coming in to flower that I'll be digging up and planting them in the back garden so they can get as big as possible before dividing them in Autumn.  Without competition from the other plants they should grow pretty big before dividing, then I can re-plant them 'en masse' back in the phaeum border!

Anyways, to give you an idea of what this border looks like, here's a photo of them from last year;

Gardening season begins...

Tag: garden, Rhododendron, species tulips, spring

... here in the Great White North.  Despite some unseasonably very warm, dry weather a few weeks ago, cooler temperatures and much-needed rain have returned.  Flowers are blooming about 2 to 3 weeks ahead of what's considered normal around here, so the change in temperature will keep them around longer to enjoy.

I'm still discovering the vegetation at our new house.   Much to my delight, the previous owners had planted some Scilla and species tulips in the front garden and lawn.  The Scilla have already peaked, but I did manage to take some pictures of the tulips today while I was waiting for a load of topsoil and pine mulch to be delivered.

Why Does My Gerbil Fidget And Bite?

Tag: biting, fidgeting, snowflake

My Gerbil Snowflake, she keeps fidgeting in my hands and biting me. While my other gerbil, Blizzard, is always calm in my hands. I've had these gerbils since 19th December 2011 and Snowflake keeps biting me. What I've also realised is that Snowflake bullies her younger sister, Blizzard by climbing on her back and not letting Blizzard go on the new wheal we have both got them. AND, Snowflake is starting to bite so hard, it draws blood to my finger. Please give me advice on what I should do to make her stop.
